Coating, encapsulation, or potting – which is right for protecting your electronics?
In this JoinedUpMinute, Ian explains the key differences between three common protection methods:
- Coating (aka conformal coating) — a thin protective film over a PCB assembly
- Encapsulation (sometimes called ‘glob topping’) — a thicker layer over specific areas
- Potting — filling an enclosure to fully embed and protect the assembly
Each option offers different levels of protection depending on your environment, reliability requirements, and need for rework.
